gerard-coyneGerard Coyne, who was sacked after losing the Unite general secretary election, has lost his bid to become temporarily re-instated.

Coyne, who stood against Len McCluskey in the spring, was the union’s West Midlands regional secretary until he was sacked in June following charges of gross misconduct  – charges he strenuously denied.

He took a case to an employment tribunal, claiming he was “unfairly dismissed” for union activities but employment judge Geraldine Flood this week rejected his his claim for interim relief, finding Coyne did not have a “pretty good chance” of proving he was dismissed for a reason other than misconduct.
