“Put your deal to a public vote” – Cortes tells Johnson
TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes has called on Boris Johnson to “end the crazy Brexit hokey cokey” and put his deal to a public vote.
The comments follow the decision on Saturday by MPs to back a further delay to the process
After a vote in Parliament the Prime Minister will now have to ask the EU for an extension beyond 31 October. MPs backed a motion designed to rule out a no-deal exit by 322 votes to 306.
Manuel Cortes said: “Like everything else with Johnson, the build-up is much better than the main event.
“Frankly, it turned out to be much ado about nothing. This Prime Minister has metamorphosed into Theresa May; she said we would leave the EU on 31st March and we didn’t. We ain’t leaving on 31st October either.
“Johnson now has three stark choices; get an extension, be booted out of Downing Street or come in front of High Court Judge and do a stretch at Her Majesty’s pleasure.
“I don’t care a jot which option he chooses but we won’t be leaving the EU on 31st October.
“It’s time to end this crazy Brexit hokey cokey by giving the British people the final say. He should put his Brexit deal versus staying as we are to a public vote.”
