Sainsbury’s workers vote for 24-hour strike
Usdaw members working at Sainsbury’s Waltham Point Distribution centre are to take strike action over a change in their attendance policy.
Usdaw divisional officer Nigel Scully said: “Our members are unhappy with Sainsbury’s proposed changes to the attendance policy and have been left with no choice but to move to industrial action in an attempt to get an improved offer from the business. We are now looking for the company to come back to the negotiating table with a significantly improved offer.
“Industrial action is always a last resort and the recent ballot result clearly shows that our members are unhappy with the Sainsbury’s current proposals. It is hoped that the company will now bring forward a set of proposals in line with our members’ expectations.”
The 380 Usdaw members voted for action by 73.4% on a turnout of 67.4%. The strike is scheduled for June 27.
