Trubridge elected as new MU general secretary
Horace Trubridge has been elected as the next General Secretary of the Musicians’ Union (MU).
The former AGS defeated EC member Kathy Dyson to succeed John Smith in the post. He takes office in July.
Horace Trubridge said: “I am absolutely delighted that the members have chosen me to take the union forward. Having spent the last few months travelling around the country and talking to the members, I have a very clear vision of where the union should be heading – building on John’s fantastic work of the last fifteen years – and I am eager to get started.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the executive committee and all the members of our union for their tremendous support. I look forward to justifying that support and meeting the difficult challenges that lay ahead.”
Trubridge began working for the MU in 1990 as a carers adviser. In 1997 he became the London official negotiating for members at the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and West End theatres before becoming AGS in 2003.
Previously, he played in several bands – he was a founder member of R&B/doowop band Darts – having a string of top ten hits before becoming a session musician and promoter.
