TSSA calls for Serco to be stripped of Caledonian Sleeper service
TSSA has called for Serco to be stripped of the Caledonian Sleeper service after stranded passengers were told they would need buy new tickets to London.
The Glasgow/Edinburgh to London service was cancelled at 520am on Friday in Preston with passengers informed that their tickets would not be accepted on any other service.
TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes said: “This is just the latest rail debacle from Serco. Last week the brakes failed on one of their trains, now they’re telling passengers at 520am in Preston that they’ll have to foot the bill for the rest of the journey themselves.
“It’s outrageous. Passengers buy a rail ticket knowing that whatever happens the railway company will get them to their destination. But Scrooge Serco don’t seem to understand their responsibilities to their passengers. If they don’t want to do the job properly they should give the franchise back and let the public sector take over.
“It’s high time the SNP stopped dishing out lucrative public service contracts to Serco, a company whose ethics are clearly on a par with slave traders given their eviction of refugees in Glasgow last week.”
