UCATT members vote to strike over sign-or-be-sacked contracts
The Newcastle-under-Lyme-based housing association has told staff their sick pay entitlement will be halved, pay and holiday entitlement is being slashed for new starters, staff are expected to work for an extra two hours a week, tool allowance and insurance guarantees are being removed and workers could face punitive financial sanctions if they are involved in an accident in a work vehicle.
The UCATT members returned a resounding 82.9% ‘Yes’ vote, and will take action on July 20th, 24th, 27th and 31st. GMB and Unite members are currently being balloted.
Shaun Lee, Regional Secretary for UCATT Midlands, said: “Aspire were warned that members would not accept a huge attack on their conditions, the industrial action is entirely of their own making.
“Aspire needs to understand that our members will not be intimidated by bully boy management tactics and they need to sit down round the table and resolve these problems sensibly.”
