UnionNews contributors long listed for radical book award

bread-and-roses-poster-smallBooks by two UnionNews contributors have been longlisted for the 2016 Bread and Roses radical book award.

Northern Resisters by Bernadette Hyland, the first publication by the Mary Quaile Club, tells the story of nine women in North West England who have been active in radical movements in recent years, while Blacklisted by Phil Chamberlain and Dave Smith uncovers the blacklisting scandal.

The short list will be announced in March and the winner  announced on 7 May at the London Radical Bookfair.

Bernadette Hyland said: “I’m delighted my book has been listed for this prestigious prize. In it I ask the question; what does it mean to be an activist; how does it affect your life and how do people keep going at a time of increasing attacks on all the aspects of this society that has made it a decent place for people to live? ”

  • Both books can be bought from Bookmarks. Northern Resisters can be ordered here while Blacklisted can be ordered here.
