“We must act now or lose jobs forever” – join Coventry demo today

unison-logo3Demonstrators will today be out in force in Coventry to demonstrate against £60m of cuts to services and 800 job cuts being threatened over the next three years.

UNISON Coventry branch secretary Sarah Feeney says: “To keep services and jobs we must act now or face their permanent loss.”

She is worried that, if the cuts go ahead, the most vulnerable will pay the price. Already, she reports that “our members who are on the frontline are supporting ever increasing numbers of people coming to us for advice and help because they are finding it difficult to deal with the realities of poverty and recession.

“To make at least 800 people redundant over the next few years will place increasing strain upon an already struggling city. We need a better deal and we need it now.”
