Wrexham nursery workers to strike over recognition
Unite members at a Wrexham Children’s Nursery are to hold three days of strike action after their employer refused to recognise the union.
Staff at the Pan Children’s Nursery are employed by Merseyside’s SHAP Limited. They voted 100% for action from July 2 to 5
Unite Regional Officer Jo Goodchild said: “Our members have voted overwhelmingly to strike because they are no longer prepared to put up with not having a voice any longer. They are being denied their right to have a trade union of their choice representing them.
“Staff regret the disruption this strike action will cause in respect of childcare arrangements. They want parents and carers to understand that they do not take this action lightly. However after nearly two years of trying to engage with SHAP over a simple trade union recognition agreement, staff feel they have no alternative left but to strike.
“Whilst SHAP may have a recognition agreement with another union, this does not cover staff at Peter Pan Nursery. Unite is strongly urging SHAP to make a genuine commitment to signing a recognition agreement to resolve the dispute so that strike action can be avoided – the ball is in their court!”
